Police clear 5,500 cannabis plants from Guadalcanal's Mbarande area

On 21 and 22 October 2019 a joint RSIPF team uprooted more than 5,500 marijuana plants at several locations in Mbarande, North East Guadalcanal. No one was arrested at the time, and police asked village chiefs, church leaders and youth leaders to help identify the growers. The same area had lost more than 4,000 plants in a raid on 24 June 2019, when a man in his 20s was arrested and police put the crop's street value at SBD 500,000 to SBD 1 million.[1][2]
