Solomon Islands writes meth possession into its drug rules, leaving cannabis penalties unchanged

The Minister for Health and Medical Services made the Dangerous Drugs (Methylamphetamine) Rules 2025, gazetted on 5 November 2025, which make possession, supply, distribution and manufacture of methylamphetamine offences without a licence. The rules came after the Director of Public Prosecutions' August 2025 warning that Part III of the Act covered only import, export and transport of scheduled drugs, and the prime minister's October promise to close the gap. Cannabis possession and cultivation were already offences under Part I, so the rules did not change cannabis penalties.[1][2]
