Sierra Leone amended its new drug law so that it would take effect on a date fixed by the president through a published legal order.[1] The original Act had left its commencement date blank, despite creating an enforcement agency and powers to destroy cannabis crops.[2] The amendment followed the law's urgent passage after a cocaine-laden plane landed in the country in July.[3]
