In July 2000 the Senegalese authorities seized some 5.3 tons of cannabis resin of Moroccan origin at the port of Dakar.[1] The resin had been shipped by sea in freight containers and was allegedly destined to be smuggled via Sierra Leone into the Netherlands.[1] The case showed Senegal working both as a cannabis producer and as a transit point for Moroccan resin bound for Europe.[1]
