Puerto Rico’s top court keeps a cannabis prosecution dismissed

María Moreno Medina, accused of holding part of a cannabis cigarette in a handbag in Ponce, kept the dismissal of her case because prosecutors filed the formal charge too late. The Supreme Court also explained that the harsher 1959 felony law could not punish conduct alleged to have occurred under the earlier misdemeanor law. The police complaint dated the incident to May 1959 at the Bar El Cocodrilo.[1]
