Puerto Rico re-enacts its cannabis ban with six months to two years in jail

Growing, importing, possessing, giving away or using cannabis was punishable by six months to two years in jail under the re-enacted cannabis law. The Supreme Court later quoted this rule while explaining that the 1934 statute re-enacted the original 1932 cannabis law. The 1959 narcotics law then replaced the misdemeanor regime with much heavier felony penalties.[1]
