The Philippines adopts its present drug law
Republic Act 9165 replaced the 1972 law, created the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and lowered the life-or-death threshold from 750 g to 500 g of marijuana. Below 300 g, possession still carried 12 years and one day to 20 years; use remained a separate offence.
