A single Dangerous Drugs Ordinance takes effect

The 1952 Ordinance came into force across the combined Territory of Papua and New Guinea, replacing the earlier separate territorial enactments. It controlled manufacture, export and medicinal import, but did not yet clearly criminalise possession of locally grown marijuana.
