Other law 🇲🇷 Mauritania

Mauritania separates legal narcotic medicines from the black market

Law 2008-012 set up four schedules for narcotics, psychotropics and precursors and required a licence for producing, trading in or holding the medical-interest schedules, limited to medical or scientific use. It expressly prohibited opium poppy, coca and cannabis cultivation and required landowners and occupiers to destroy volunteer plants. The health minister could authorise otherwise prohibited handling for research, teaching or scientific police, but the law created no cannabis medicine or industrial hemp crop.[1]
