Mali withdrew the industrial-hemp authorisation granted in 2017 for a supervised production project. Central drug office director Adama Tounkara said the producers had sought to change the agreed terms, leading to a new decision cancelling permission. He confirmed the withdrawal at a May press conference as claims that the project was still operating circulated on social media.[1]
