The Federation's Dangerous Drugs Act (Act 25 of 1956(F)) commenced on 1 April 1956, consolidating the prohibition that the 1932 ordinance and the 1936 Noxious Weeds Act had built.[1][2] Its section 19 made any contravention — including unlicensed possession and cultivation under the regulations — punishable with a K500,000 fine and life imprisonment, as amended in 1995.[1] It remained the recreational prohibition behind the licensed 2020 system.[1][2]
