Debate 🇱🇻 Latvia

Latvia's president and prime minister back ending prosecution of minors for drug use

After the medical association asked for personal use to be decriminalised, the prime minister, Evika Siliņa, and the president, Edgars Rinkēvičs, supported a justice ministry proposal that young people should no longer be criminally liable for using drugs. Possession and supply would stay crimes. Ten minors were prosecuted for drug offences in 2024, against hundreds of administrative cases a year; the amendments were due before the Saeima in January 2026.[1][2]
