At a parliamentary session on 26 February 2026, MP Dastan Bekeshev proposed growing technical cannabis for bags, clothes and military uniforms. Deputy agriculture minister Zhanybek Kerimaliev said the ministry was considering it but that laws would have to change, the police would have to be involved and the Academy of Sciences would have to test the crop. No bill or licence scheme was adopted at the session.[1]
