Jersey rewrites its drug law around drug classes

The Misuse of Drugs (Jersey) Law 1978 put cannabis and cannabis resin in Class B, with up to five years in prison for possession and fourteen for producing, supplying or holding with intent to supply.[1] Cannabinol and its derivatives went into Class A, the most serious class.[1] The law replaced the 1954 and 1965 laws and took full effect on 1 May 1980; an order that year also barred doctors and pharmacists from dealing in cannabis except under licence or for research.[2][3]
