Phung Hai’s six-month prison sentence for possessing 1.18 g of cannabis was reduced to two months on appeal.[1] The original magistrate had relied on two earlier drug convictions to reject a fine, but the appeal judge accepted that the sentence was excessive in light of the sentencing authorities; the prosecution did not defend it.[1]
