Georgia's Constitutional Court rules out prison for growing small amounts

In a case brought by three men who had grown cannabis (63.73 g, 150.72 g and 265.49 g), the First Chamber held that imprisonment for sowing and growing the two smaller amounts for personal use was disproportionate and breached article 17(2) of the Constitution. For 265.49 g it accepted prison as a kind of punishment because of the risk of distribution, but found the term of six to twelve years disproportionate.[1]
