New South Wales makes unauthorised cannabis use an offence

New South Wales introduced penal controls on the unauthorised use of Indian hemp and resin in 1935, after South Australia had done so in 1934. Queensland followed in 1937, Western Australia in 1950 and Tasmania in 1959. The states built the bans on older opium laws, and cannabis remained little used in Australia until the late 1960s.[1]
