The USSR adopted the Fundamentals of Criminal Legislation, the model for the Armenian SSR's 1961 criminal code. That code punished drug production, trafficking and possession, and growing drug-type hemp, and stayed in force until 2003. Its drug articles were the Soviet-era base for the rules Armenia kept after independence.[1][2]
