Abkhazia convicted 29 cannabis growers in two years

In April 2026 the prosecutor general's office reported that courts had handled 33 drug-plant cultivation cases in 2024–2025 and convicted 29 people. Twelve received real prison terms, nine suspended sentences and four were sent for compulsory treatment; fines came to 2.45 million roubles. Police seized 598 cannabis roots, mostly South Krasnodar, and 547 opium poppy roots. Prosecutors said five plants and fifty plants both drew ten years and proposed changing the cabinet's threshold.[1]
