On 19 August 2026 customs officers at Sukhumi airport found 4.8 g of cannabis in the luggage of a 38-year-old Russian citizen during a pre-flight check. He was detained and handed to the interior ministry. The amount was just above the 4 g large-amount threshold, so the case could be prosecuted in the aggravated possession tier rather than as simple possession.[1]
