The Controlled Substances Act came into force on 16 January 2026. It licences manufacture, import, export and dealing in controlled substances, and it repeals the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1967. Cannabis and cannabis resin are listed among the narcotic drugs. Possession of a listed substance without authorisation is an offence of up to fifteen years. The Cannabis Act's own licences for growing cannabis for medicine and research are still not in force.[1]
