Tightening 🇺🇿 Uzbekistan

The Soviet Union makes simple drug possession a crime

A Presidium edict of 25 April 1974 made buying, keeping or transporting narcotics without intent to supply a crime punishable by up to three years, while small holdings and use without a prescription became administrative offences. It also let courts send people addicted to drugs to compulsory treatment for six months to two years. The edict told each union republic to amend its own laws; Uzbekistan was then a Soviet republic, and its own implementing amendment was not found.[1]
