The Uzbek SSR approved a new criminal code on 21 May 1959. Its drug articles punished buying and keeping narcotics only when done with intent to supply, unlike several other Soviet republics; simple possession for personal use was not a crime under the code. The code remained in force until the 1995 replacement.[1][2]
