A Virginia student gets 25 years for marijuana

Frank LaVarre, a twenty-year-old former University of Virginia student caught at a Danville bus station with four containers of marijuana, pleaded guilty to possession and was sentenced to twenty-five years in the state penitentiary, five suspended, and a $500 fine. After Life magazine used the case to illustrate the country's drug laws, the governor pardoned him on 2 January 1970, placing him on probation.[1]
