US Supreme Court allows naked-eye aerial observation of backyard cannabis

In California v. Ciraolo, the Supreme Court held that police did not need a warrant to view a fenced backyard's cannabis plants with the naked eye from an airplane lawfully flying at 1,000 feet. Although the yard was within the home's protected surroundings, the Court found no reasonable expectation of privacy against this public aerial viewpoint. Police obtained a warrant before seizing the plants.[1]
