Arizona votes to let doctors prescribe cannabis, which federal law forbids

About 65% of Arizona voters approved Proposition 200, which let doctors prescribe cannabis to seriously ill patients if a second doctor agreed. No doctor could lawfully prescribe a federal Schedule I drug, so the provision never worked. In April 1997 the legislature made it wait for FDA approval, and in 1998 voters rejected that change; California's law of the same day had used the word "recommend".[1][2]
