An agent of the US Drug Enforcement Administration arrested the Welsh smuggler Howard Marks, who claimed to have moved consignments of cannabis as large as 30 tons, and he was extradited to the United States. He was sentenced to 25 years, served seven in the federal prison at Terre Haute and was released in April 1995. His autobiography Mr Nice, published in 1996, became a best-seller, and he campaigned for changes in drug law.[1]
