Indigenous Medicine Minister Sisira Jayakody said officials had drawn up legal provisions to grow cannabis for medicine and export and would take them to Cabinet within days. He said recreational use would stay banned and that cannabis already fell under the Ayurveda Act. The proposal did not become law in that form; the next public step was a pilot project approved in May 2023.[1]
