Ordinance No. 119 of 11 November 1946, 'Control of Narcotics', transferred the Governor-General's opium monopoly records to the US military government and regulated the production and movement of narcotics south of the 38th parallel. A Ministry of Health rule replaced it in June 1947, and the 1953 Criminal Act added a chapter on opium offences. The ordinance dealt with opium and narcotics; the 1957 Narcotics Act named Indian hemp.[1]
