Independence keeps the 1941 drug regulation in force

On 7 July 1978 Solomon Islands became independent. Section 5 of the Independence Order preserved all existing laws, so the 1941 Dangerous Drugs Regulation and its cannabis ban continued without a break. Two legal notices that year, LN 46A and LN 88 of 1978, amended the drug law, and the regulation remained the basis of the ban until it was consolidated as Cap. 98.[1][2]
