An RSFSR decree implementing the Soviet Union's October measure inserted Article 179-a into the Criminal Code. Sowing opium poppy or Indian hemp without the appropriate permission carried up to two years' imprisonment or up to one year of corrective labour, with mandatory confiscation of the crops. The provision concerns sowing, not every act of possession or consumption. This entry uses the amendment's issue date; separate commencement was not verified.[1]
