Qatar becomes a British protectorate

Britain and Qatar signed an 11-article treaty in 1916 under which Britain became the protecting power, provided for a British political resident and took charge of Qatar's external defence, while the ruler kept internal administration. The treaty shaped the state that later wrote its own drug laws; it did not itself contain any cannabis rule. Qatar renewed the treaty in 1935 and ended it on independence in 1971.[1]
