Debate 🇵🇷 Puerto Rico

A former police chief proposes legal cannabis in Puerto Rico

Senator Miguel Pereira, a former police superintendent, filed a bill to make it legal for adults 21 and older to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. Dozens marched to the Capitol in support while critics pointed to 1,117 killings in 2011, most linked to drugs. At the time, possession could bring up to three years in jail and a $5,000 fine. The bill stayed in committee.[1]
