Lebanon sends armoured cars to destroy cannabis crops

Under Egyptian and US pressure, Lebanon sent armoured cars to protect work gangs destroying marijuana crops under police surveillance. Speaker Sabri Hamade sat on the Parliamentary Committee for Hashish Destruction, which had begun promoting eradication in 1950. The campaign was an early case of enforcement aimed at fields while political elites stayed involved in the trade.[1]
