Japan's Supreme Court rejects constitutional challenges to cannabis controls

In decisions on 10 and 27 September, the Supreme Court's First Petty Bench dismissed appeals challenging cannabis controls on constitutional grounds. It accepted the lower courts' findings of harmfulness and rejected the appeals' premise that cannabis was harmless or minimally harmful. The decisions concerned cannabis importation and associated possession controls, leaving the existing restrictions in place.[1]
