The singer Bob Marley, who had recently taken up the Rastafari faith and its use of ganja as a sacrament, was arrested for possession. According to the historian Martin Booth he spent a month in jail, under a law that since 1941 had made prison compulsory for any ganja conviction, and used the time to learn more about Rastafari.[1][2]
