Law 1/2023 replaced the old Criminal Code and moved possession of non-plant narcotics into Article 609 and production, import, export and distribution into Article 610. It also made death a special punishment with a ten-year probation. The code took effect on 2 January 2026; its transitional article repealed Articles 112 and 113 of the narcotics law, while the penal-adjustment law kept Article 114.[1][2][3]
