Paris hospitals treat cholera with hashish tincture

When cholera reached northern Paris in late December 1848, physicians at several of the city's hospitals prescribed hashish tincture to patients; nearly 13,000 people had contracted the disease by April. Hashish medicines were then ordinary pharmacy goods: an 1850 price guide listed a dose of tincture at about the price of a bottle of cheap wine.[1]
