The district council of Samdrup Jongkhar decided to ask the National Assembly to amend the law so that marijuana could be sold for medicinal purposes. Leaders of Lauri and Serthig gewogs, where the plant grows wild and villages are far from markets, said it could bring income; about 25 villagers from the two gewogs had been arrested for trafficking over the previous five years.[1]
