Law 55/2023 was published on 8 September and took effect on 1 October. It amended article 40 of the 1993 drug law and article 2 of the 2000 decriminalisation law. Acquisition and possession for personal use are an administrative offence. Holding more than the average amount for ten days is a sign that the purpose may not be personal use. Where the judicial authority finds the drugs were only for personal use, it closes the case, withholds indictment or acquits, and sends the person to a dissuasion commission. Growing for one's own use remains a crime, with up to three months in prison or a fine of up to 30 days.[1]
