Livingstone records that cannabis use by slaves is a crime in Angola

The explorer David Livingstone noted that under Portuguese rule in Angola the use of cannabis by slaves was considered a crime, while the plant was used widely among the peoples of the interior. Another explorer wrote that although the Portuguese forbade slaves to use it, diamba was sold openly at the market in Luanda and grown round village huts almost everywhere.[1]
