context › culture › text

[Ganja](/culture/language/ganja/) is the word Asian immigrants carried to Suriname, and the colonial administration took it as its own legal term: the 1908 ordinance ended ganja imports on 1 March 1918.(/history/suriname-ganja-import-ban-1918/) Three years later the immigrants' association asked for the ban to be lifted and for a concession to import and sell it.[@wiki]
