Tightening 🇸🇾 Syria

A harsher cannabis penal regime takes effect in Syria

A new, harsher penal regime for cannabis production came into force in Syria.[1] On that very day the gendarmerie found a five-ton cannabis crop at al-Jumaqliyyah near Hama, on a farm of the powerful Barazi clan.[1] Citizens of Hama petitioned Geneva over the affair, and the Mandates Commission asked for more information in June 1935, pressing the French administration.[1] The clan head and a brother caught supervising hashish production received only minimal fines.[1]
