Enforcement 🇸🇾 Syria

Syria enforces the hashish ban in the Druze mountains

After Adib al-Shishakli took power in 1949, his government forcibly administered the Jabal Druze, breaking the Atrash clan's autonomy and its hashish revenues.[1] U.S. reports found the ban on hashish cultivation "in the main consistently enforced" in the Jabal, and smuggling to Jordan "sharply curtailed".[1] Shishakli put his brother Salah in charge of border control.[1]
