Suriname's president says drugs should be treated mainly as a health issue

Opening a workshop of the National Anti-Drugs Council in Paramaribo on the revision of the five-yearly National Drugs Master Plan, President Chandrikapersad Santokhi said drug problems should be approached mainly as a health matter and less as a criminal one, with a focus on reducing use, helping addicts and curbing demand, and proposed coordinating the plan from the Presidency. The report of the workshop does not mention cannabis specifically.[1]
