UN working group condemns Saudi drug executions as unlawful

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention published an opinion on three Egyptian nationals sentenced to death for drug offences in Saudi Arabia. It found their detention arbitrary, their trials unfair and the executions of Farhat Abu al-Saud and Mohamed Kamel in May and June 2025 "inexcusable", and said drug offences do not meet the threshold for the death penalty. It urged Saudi Arabia to compensate the families, release the third man and restore a moratorium.[1][2]
