Naufar opened in Doha in 2017 under an Emiri decision of 2015 that defined addiction as a disease and gave the centre responsibility for substance-use treatment. It offered residential and outpatient care in a 127-room facility. The 1987 drug law already allowed courts to send addicted defendants to a clinic for three months to a year; Naufar became the main institution for that treatment.[1][2][3]
