Nigeria's Senate votes for the death penalty for drug trafficking

Passing a bill to amend the NDLEA Act, the Senate adopted a floor amendment replacing life imprisonment with death as the penalty for drug traffickers. A first voice vote seemed to go against it; the Deputy Senate President called a second and ruled it carried, over protests from some senators. The bill still needed agreement with the House of Representatives.[1]
