Mauritius's consolidated drug law takes effect

The Dangerous Drugs Act 2000 took effect on 5 December 2001 under Proclamation 26 of 2001. It consolidated drug controls, listed cannabis and cannabis resin in Schedule I, and prohibited cultivation, possession, supply and use subject to its limited authorised research and teaching framework. It replaced earlier drug enactments while preserving proceedings for earlier offences. The year in the Act's title and its 2000 enactment date should be distinguished from commencement.[1]
