Tottori Prefecture bans hemp growing after arrests at a licensed firm

After the president and two employees of a permitted hemp processing company in Chizu were arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis, the Tottori prefectural assembly unanimously passed an ordinance banning hemp production in the prefecture, to be enforced within a year. It stops any company from receiving a hemp production licence there. Governor Shinji Hirai called a complete ban the ultimate way to prevent cannabis being grown under cover of the industrial hemp programme.[1]
